The HELP System

The Health Employee Learning Program (HELP) system is a unique solution to the accelerating needs for trained caretakers for our aging population.

It increases the productivity, efficiency, and confidence of caretakers by allowing them to participate in an extremely sophisticated teaching process that conveys information effectively and uniformly.

HELP is an educational system that brings together several instructional approaches. The two most important are:

  1. The production of the educational material in an easy-to-use audio-visual format (the most effective method for teaching manipulative skills).

  2. The logical progression of programmed instruction.

Each unit of the system is designed and developed by a team of subject matter experts, psychologists, educators, writers, artists, and film makers. The team develops each program in a scientific manner to guarantee that every student will learn the essential information and tasks presented.

Our programmed instruction technique distinguishes the HELP system from other films in the area of caretaker training. This system is a product of a careful development process, resulting in a reproducible sequence of instructional events. It has been demonstrated to produce measurable and consistent learning by students.

The construction of each program begins with a task analysis and the definition of instructional goals -- aimed at measurable capabilities to be acquired by the learner.

A major advantage is that our programs are self-paced. Students who work rapidly are not held back, and those who need to work more slowly have a chance to master each stage of the program before moving on to the next. Each step provides positive reinforcement to the learner.

Our task analysis also provides the basis for the design of mastery tests that will measure a representative sampling of competency and achievement.

This self-instructional HELP system provides an effective method of certifying that each caretaker has learned the subject matter contained in the instructional module.
